Pink Floyd
Am I missing something here? They seem ok, but not the world beaters some are suggesting?

Inform me.

I know a room of musical tunes
Some rhyme, some ching, most of them are clockwork
Let’s go into the other room and make them work

I have been to a gazillion gigs in my time on the planet and Floyd shows are up there among the best, even worked on The Wall show at Earls Court, stunning stuff

I know a mouse and he hasn't got a house.
I don't know why I call him Gerald,

Echoes is absolutely superb.

They lost it post Waters, MOR dirge albeit superbly done bit with no edge at all.

Re: Pink Floyd
Hopelessly passing your time in the grassland away

Only dimly aware of a certain unease in the air

You better watch out

There may be dogs about

I've looked over Jordan, and I have seen

Things are not what they seem

What do you get for pretending the danger's not real

Meek and obedient you follow the leader

Down well trodden corridors into the valley of steel

What a surprise

The look of terminal shock in your eyes

Now things are really what they seem

No, this is no bad dream

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want

He makes me down to lie

Through pastures green He leadeth me the silent waters by

With bright knives he releaseth my soul

He maketh me to hang on hooks in high places

He converteth me to lamb cutlets

For lo, He hath great power, and great hunger

When cometh the day we lowly ones

Through quiet reflection, and great dedication

Master the art of karate

Lo, we shall rise up

And then we'll make the bugger's eyes water

Bleating and babbling we fell on his neck with a scream

Wave upon wave of demented avengers

March cheerfully out of obscurity into the dream

Have you heard the news?

The dogs are dead

You better stay home

And do as you're told

Get out of the road if you want to grow old

Re: Pink Floyd
If some people are suggesting to you that Pink Floyd are world beaters then I reckon you've probably hit a time loop and gone back to the early 70s. It's easily done. You'll probably find your way back eventually, stinking of patchouli.

Re: Pink Floyd
I don't listen to them much now but when I was younger I would listen to them quite a lot

For overall good albums its between Animals, Dark side of the moon and Wish you here

Re: Pink Floyd
Like many bands they went on too long but that's their choice.
Their best is very good though ... but if you don't like it then so be it. To each their own.

It WOULD be interesting to hear what your 'world beaters' are though.

Re: Pink Floyd
I struggle with the concept of one band's music 'beating' most others.

If I listen to something today it won't spoil my enjoyment of something else tomorrow if I feel like it. I've never understood the mentality behind 'ranking' bands or music. If I hear something I like, whereabouts on someone's league table it is doesn't really affect me.

Anyway, 'it's too late to lose the weight you used to need to throw around'

One of at least five progressive rock artists mentioned in The Young Ones. The others being: Hawkwind, Marillion, Genesis and Steve Hillage.
